'No electricity. No food. No water. Houses and buildings leveled. Bodies scattered on the streets. Hospitals overrun with patients. Medical supplies running out' is how CNN described the situation in Tacloban, Leyte province.
The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is on the ground in the Philippines mobilizing a humanitarian response. Delivering clean drinking water and safe sanitation is the IRC's primary focus. Access to light and power is also considered to be of great importance at an early stage of the relief efforts. The WakaWaka’s will have immediate impact. Finding loved ones, getting information out on the unfolding devastation is critical and light in the evening has an impact we can hardly imagine if one has never lived in the dark completely. Light empowers hurricane victims and allows emergency response teams to do their job after sunset. WakaWaka has already partnered with the IRC in Syria where well over 25 000 refugee families are currently using WakaWakas.
With electricity down in the disaster area in the Philippines for the next couple of months up to a year, WakaWaka’s will keep on impacting people’s lives there for a long time. We are currently mobilizing efforts together with IRC to have our WakaWaka shipments locally distributed by them.
Together with you, let’s assist the IRC to help as many as we can, as soon as possible. Buy One – Give One, now.
Buy one, Give One!
WakaWakas are high-tech, low-cost solar powered lamps and chargers that are indispensable tools both in the developing world and in developed markets.
For each WakaWaka you purchase, we will donate one to the International Rescue Committee, who will make sure the WakaWakas get to the survivors of Typhoon Haiyan.
No need for a WakaWaka yourself? Donate them directly to the Philippines. For the same price as the Buy one, Give one, two WakaWakas will go to the International Rescue Committee (IRC). Your donation will also support the logistical and operational costs of the emergency response IRC is mounting in the region. The 'donate now' button below will take you to the dedicated WakaWaka donation page on the IRC's website.
Spread the word!
We started an online campaign to raise awareness for #SolarforPhilippines. Since you are a loyal supporter of WakaWaka, we wanted to invite you to add your Facebook and Twitter support. We are using a platform called Thunderclap to swamp Twitter and Facebook with this important message.
What is Thunderclap? It's a new platform that allows people to pledge a Tweet or Facebook message that is concentrated and unleashed all at the same time. Think of it as a massive online flash mob on Twitter. It's completely safe and will automatically post exactly one message on your behalf.
